Anhydrite screed

Calcium sulphate, also known as anhydrite or gypsum, is used as a binder in screeds, offering advantages like low shrinkage and compatibility with underfloor heating, making it a popular alternative to traditional cement-based screeds.

Anhydrite screed : What it is ?

Calcium sulphate screeds are made from calcium sulphate hemihydrate and water, which sets through a chemical reaction that converts the hemihydrate into gypsum (a hydrated calcium sulphate).
They are also referred to as anhydrite or gypsum screeds.
They are often used as a pumpable screed, meaning they can be applied as a liquid.

Benefits:

Low shrinkage: Calcium sulphate screeds shrink less than traditional sand and cement screeds, reducing the risk of cracking.
No reinforcement required: They don’t typically require reinforcement to minimize shrinkage cracking.
Eco-friendly: Calcium sulphate can be a byproduct of the chemical industry, making it a more sustainable option.
Compatibility with underfloor heating: They are suitable for use with underfloor heating systems.
Rapid drying times: They dry faster than traditional screeds, allowing for quicker installation of floor coverings.
Thin application layers: They can be applied in thinner layers than traditional screeds.
Easy to install: They are easy to install and require no physical compaction.
Self-leveling: They are self-leveling, making them suitable for uneven surfaces.

Applications:

Renovating damaged and uneven industrial floors, New build projects, Underfloor heating installations, Floors in large areas, and Areas where rapid drying and early access are needed.

Things to Consider:

Laitance:

A weak, friable film (laitance) may form on the surface during curing, which needs to be removed before applying floor coverings.

Damp-proof system:

Calcium sulphate screeds must be used on floors with a functioning damp-proof system and are not suitable for areas with prolonged moisture exposure.

Compatibility with floor coverings:

Ensure that the chosen floor coverings and adhesives are compatible with calcium sulphate screeds.

Underfloor heating:

Underfloor heating should be off for at least 48 hours before and after, as well as during, an installation.

Surface preparation:

Proper surface preparation is crucial for achieving a good result
